(1) Research Associate-Fixed Term

Position Summary: The Fang Research Group in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Michigan State University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in the fabrication and characterization of materials for next-generation battery applications. We are particularly interested in developing lithium-sulfur batteries and sodium batteries. In addition to the primary research responsibilities, the successful applicant will be able to participate in other lab and CHEMS departmental activities including assisting with training of undergraduate and graduate students, report writing, and grant writing. This position is initially for one year, renewable annually based on performance. The position includes salary and fringe benefits for one year. The successful applicant will be involved in developing materials for next generation battery applications.

Required Degree: Doctorate -Materials Science or related field

Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in Materials Science, or related field by the start of the position. The ideal candidate will have a strong chemistry background, familiar with various characterization methods and rich experience in synthesis and characterization of battery materials and battery device fabrication.

Desired Qualifications: Industrial experiences in battery manufacturing are desired.

 

(2) Research Associate-Fixed Term

Position Summary: The postdoctoral researcher will develop and implement techniques to enhance the capability in quantum sensing systems using the nitrogen vacancy (NV)-center in diamond. The research project involves both diamond growth by chemical vapor deposition as well as characterization and nanofabrication in a class 4 laser laboratory.  The successful candidate should have a strong background in optics and photonics, and in particular in confocal microscopy and femtosecond laser machining, and experience working in a cleanroom environment.
