Postdoctoral fellowships at The Ohio State University

7 Postdoc positions at Ohio State University

1. Postdoc Fellowship Position: Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

A full time Postdoctoral Scholar position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Andre Palmer, Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering and Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Dr. Palmer’s laboratory engineers novel hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers for a variety of applications in transfusion medicine and tissue engineering as oxygen therapeutics. His lab is also developing therapeutics for the detoxification of hemoglobin/heme/iron, non-heme based plasma substitutes, and monocyte/macrophage targeted drug delivery systems.

The prospective candidate will collaborate, design and conduct research on the research projects described above, under the guidance of Dr. Palmer. They will participate in research activities; perform analysis of data and prepare results of research for publication; plan and design research to test hypotheses; assist PI with grant proposals to obtain outside funding from federal agencies; develop, adopt and implement new laboratory methods.

3. Postdoctoral Fellowship Position: Cancer biology

Postdoc summary/title: Research Associate 1-B/H

We are seeking a candidate to join the Pitter Lab as a Research Associated 1-B/H at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center in Columbus Ohio. The Pitter lab is interested in understanding the role of tumor heterogeneity in cancer biology and therapeutic resistance, with a special interest in radiation resistance and pancreatic cancer. We approach this question using a combination of sophisticated genetically engineered mouse models, single cell transcriptomics, tracing and ablation of distinct tumor cell lineages, CRISPR-mediated gene regulation, and advanced imaging techniques.

As a Research Associate 1-B/H in the laboratory, you will have an exciting opportunity to help establish a dynamic team environment focused on developing new, innovative therapeutic concepts aimed at reducing cellular heterogeneity tumors. In this role you will be responsible for performing contemporary biomedical laboratory research under the supervision of the principal investigator, helping supervise new lab members, and supporting research infrastructure in the laboratory. You will be assigned duties with an increasing level of responsibility and independence as you develop, based on your performance.

5. Postdoctoral Fellowship Position: Neuroscience

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Researcher

Post Doctoral Researcher will carry out data analytic research under the supervision of the principal investigator in the Vonder Haar laboratory, a foundational (basic) biological/health science laboratory investigating traumatic brain injury in the Department of Neuroscience. The NIH-funded 1-year project involves compiling and harmonizing large behavioral and biological datasets and applying machine learning and other advanced statistical techniques to answer questions and establish future directions. Behavioral data is the primary focus of these analyses, but other types of data available include histological, transcriptomic, and gut microbiome datasets. See our 2022 publication for an example of this type of project (https://doi.org/10.3389/fnbeh.2022.837654). Other ongoing projects involve using harmonized datasets to improve power for animal behavioral studies and simulation of data to evaluate different methods. Opportunities exist to learn animal behavior, surgical, and wet lab procedures. Other core expectations, include assisting in mentoring of junior researchers; collaborating with PI to develop manuscripts and posters for publication and presentation in scientific journals and conferences; perform critical analysis of literature relevant to research; assist with development, writing and preparation of grant proposals. It is expected that the candidate will have demonstrated expertise in R, Python or similar languages used for statistical analyses and be well-versed in at least one aspect of the research questions (e.g., TBI, behavior). This position may be performed in person, hybrid, or remote. Pay range is according to NIH postdoc scale.
